Our Deal Team

Our comprehensive commitment to you.

Learn more about our unique team dynamic.

While most business brokerages follow a more traditional service model, assigning each client a single representative who handles virtually every stage of the transactional process, we do things differently. Every project we take on has its own Deal Team -- a dedicated group of industry professionals focused on your needs. This approach ensures that you receive comprehensive support, quick response times and expertise at every level, every step of the way. Each Deal Team is divided into four key divisions.

Divisions

Portfolio

We understand what buyers look for in a business, and we work to position a business to be sold for the best price and in the most advantageous time frame.  The right deal is different for every business, so our team creates compelling Confidential Business Reviews that are tailored to each business and marketed specifically to attract the right buyer.

Brokerage

Our Brokerage Division works to generate buyer interest and privately pair qualified buyers with sellers.  After meetings between both parties, offers are made and negotiated to reach a mutually beneficial price.  The Firm boasts more than 1,800 active, qualified buyers.

Deals

After an offer is accepted, our In-House Legal Counsel works closely with attorneys, CPA's and lending institutions to fine tune deal points over 30 to 60 days.  During this time, we coordinate the due diligence, prep for a successful closing and facilitate a smooth transition.

Strategy

Our interest in your business extends beyond the closing table.  We work to ensure you remain successful by promoting your business to over 21,000 professionals in the Omaha area, and work with  many chambers of commerce and economic development groups across the region to foster community interest.

Portfolio

As Portfolio Manager for The Firm, Maureen Tierney works hard to learn about each business that is listed, by interviewing sellers and compiling as much information as possible to best represent what makes each company unique to the market.  Maureen joined The Firm full-time in November 2016, and has worked with each division to revamp the marketing materials on each business in The Firm's portfolio.  Before this, Maureen had been a freelance copywriter for The Firm Deal Review, interviewing past clients and discussing their business success.  While she is still very much involved with each Review issue, she is delighted to be writing full-time crafting business packages or writing press releases.

Since graduating from Creighton University with an English degree, Maureen has worked in the agriculture and commodities industries.  Both have helped to shape and expand her insatiable curiosity and have left her with knowledge of two very different trades.

An Omaha native, Maureen spent 2 1/2 years in California's Bay Area at Santa Clara University before deciding to come home.  In her free time, Maureen is an avid artist, enjoying drawing, painting and playing the piano.

"Please thank your Portfolio Manager for sending over all the information on the service business. I have looked at packages from other brokers in town and yours was by far the most detailed and informative. I will be able to make a decision based on what you supplied."
-Jeff H, Buyer

As Director of Operations for The Firm, Cassandra Powers' main responsibility is to oversee the business operations while assisting with Buyers and Sellers on all accounts. A large part of her time is spent educating business owners on when the appropriate time is to complete a business valuation and to plan an exit, all while working with future entrepreneurs and learning their desires in their own business and pairing them with the right opportunity.  This includes assisting with the process of finding the perfect business as well as being able to secure the financing for the deal; working alongside lenders allows this to be accomplished.

Being with The Firm for the number of years that she have, Cassandra has not only the education and knowledge, but also the experience with putting both business owners and entrepreneurs at ease when working to ensure the best transition possible.

Cassandra is originally from Exira, Iowa, and is the youngest in her family.  She enjoys fishing and camping with her husband, Chad, and likes watching mystery and suspenseful movies.  She also holds the position of Growth Coordinator for her Business Networking International chapter.

“Cassandra, thanks again for being so incredible. Cortney certainly knows how to run her business well, and she has handpicked an incredible staff who supports her. Looking forward to doing business again down the road when it's time to expand!!”

- Sharon Hopson, Buyer, Heartland Montessori

What do you like most about your job?

Making the American Dream come true, and allowing Buyers to control their futures and providing Sellers with the ability to let their legacy live on.

What's your favorite client experience?

I have enjoyed working with all of the clients over the years but my favorite would have to be the closing of a childcare center which allowed a woman to be her own boss, she has since purchase another from us and has started a third as she is outgrowing her spaces because she has become so successful by The Firm allowing her the opportunity to be her own boss?

Swan Ideology: How are you most swan-like?

I live, eat and breathe it.  I have The Firm on my mind 24/7.  Every day, I express what we do to friends, family and complete strangers.

Which Core Value do you most represent?

Industry Expert - I have years of experience that allows me to know the good, the bad, and the indifferent.  I am able to ensure clients the most efficient ways in proceeding forward with deals.

Director of Operations

What's been your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is getting to know our clients and learning about the uniqueness of the companies that have been built here in the Midwest. Pairing a business owner with a buyer that is passionate about growing the owner's legacy is extremely rewarding.

What's been your best client experience?

It's so hard to choose one client experience. There have been so many fantastic buyers and sellers that we have helped to get to the closing table. Each closing is unique and special, whether it is a small boutique that is transitioning or a large IT or trucking company.

Swan Ideology: How are you most swan-like?

Other than being a great swimmer (and having a long neck), I am most swanlike because I am very loyal to my "herd" -- whether it be my family, my coworkers or my clients.

Which Core Value do you most closely embody?

Ethically driven. I strive to find the right buyers to introduce to turnkey business owners rather than completing the easiest deals. I realize that our buyers are often investing their life savings and our sellers are looking to pass on their legacy: their buiness. It is only right that we do our part in making sure that the best buyers are coming to the table and the best businesses are being represented.

What's been your favorite part of your job?

Working with clients and being able to build relationships with them, some that last for years. I have a vested interest in their success. There's nothing better than watching my clients realize their dream of owning their own business or retiring.

What's been your best client experience?

In 2014, I worked with a young man whose dream was to own a bar.  After many meetings, due diligence, issues with the liquor commission...that young man finally saw his dream come to fruition.  Since that time, he has created a thriving one-of-a-kind bar. We're still friends, and he told me that when he is ready to sell he will come back to me.  It was such a great experience. That truly is the best part.

Swan Ideology: How are you most swan-like?

I am classy and carry myself with respect and dignity, both inside and outside The Firm.  I believe that we ARE the brand and must carry ourselves as such.  It's important to always act as if we may meet that client at any moment.

Which Core Value do you most closely embody?

Industry Expert - I really focus on educating my clients. I want to make sure they get something valuable from their experience here, and education is always a good way to start.

What is your favorite part of your job?

My day is never exactly like the day before.  I like the challenge of having something new to conquer each day.

Every time we can get a client a step closer to their goal is a memorable experience, so my “memorable experiences” happen several times a day!

Swan Ideology: How are you most like a swan?

Swans are highly intelligent and remember who has been kind to them (or not).

I learn very quickly and retain a lot of information, anything from small details about a business owner’s exit strategy, to revenue numbers given to me at my interview.

Which Core Value do you most embody?

Always Confidential- I deal with a lot of buyers and sellers over the phone and via email. As anyone who has worked with us knows, our business listings are 100% confidential, so there is no “slipping up” when it comes to confidentiality. My teammates and I live and breathe this every day.
